A man has been charged with the deaths of two children in Alabama and a third in Florida.
The FBI is investigating a series a deaths linked to a car accident in Alabama that killed a 2-yearold boy and an 8-year old girl, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney’s office in Montgomery.
The U.N. Children’s Fund has also confirmed that the children were from an area that is known for its high-speed car crashes.
The children’s grandmother told AL.com that she is devastated by the news.
The family was in the midst of renovating their home when the accident happened.
The couple was driving their new car when it lost control and went off the road, striking a tree and sending the children to the hospital, the statement said.
The girl’s mother and brother-in-law were taken to the Birmingham Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, the FBI said.
A third child was treated at a hospital for a head injury and a child in critical condition.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
